Anna didn’t send an email. She called. That already put her in a very small, elite category of humans. Who just picks up the phone these days? Busy moms. That’s who. From the first few minutes, it didn’t feel like an inquiry call, but a real conversation. We talked about her son, who was about 18 months old at the time. I could hear in her voice that she was planning something that fit into a life already in motion. That’s the kind of season I love documenting. There’s something different about couples who already share a child. Their Colorado micro wedding isn’t the beginning of their story. It’s more like pausing a moment to gather their people and say, “This is what we’ve built.”
We clicked right away. She asked thoughtful questions. She wanted guidance in a collaborative way. When she told me they were planning to celebrate at a private home in Breckenridge, I was in. Forest. River nearby. Close-knit guest list. Just their people, their child, and the mountains doing what the mountains do.

The ceremony spot was tucked into the woods along the river, and the second I saw it, I understood why they chose it.
It was quiet, and it rained off and on throughout the day. Just enough to keep everything feeling moody and alive. Honestly, it only made it better. The light was diffused, the greens were deeper, and everything had this subtle Twilight energy.
Their son was there for most of the day, just being his adorable self. Toddlers don’t care about timelines. They care about snacks and exploring. And I love that. It keeps everyone present. It reminds you what actually matters. The guest list was small, which meant no hiding in the back row.

After the ceremony, everyone made their way back to the house, and we snuck off for a few post-ceremony shots by the river.
The long wooden tables set up outside on the patio were simple and thoughtful. Bud vases lined the center with wild florals that felt like they belonged in the woods. There was a bartender mixing drinks, and caterers moving around preparing dinner.
What stood out most was how clearly everyone was there for them. To celebrate this little family they’ve already built. Their son was still woven into everything, too. Lars and Anna were so laid-back and trusting the entire day. They asked for guidance and actually took it to heart. When I suggested stepping away for a quiet moment by the river, they did. When I encouraged them to slow down and just be still together, they leaned into it. Those are my favorite kinds of days.
